Girls of a Feather

This post was inspired by my bird, my true and lovely companion with whom I share a room. Birds are so elegant without even trying too hard. I mean, don't get me wrong, when you live with a bird you know very well that they try their hardest to look that fabulous. However, we'll move past that together, shall we?

If you would like to give your wardrobe a feathery upbeat, why not start with some of these dyed rooster feather earrings:

Youcan pick them up at artfire.com. They are some of many different types of feathered earrings. Many are peacock feathers, but I didn't want to go there.

However, that didn't stop me from finding a new love for these peacock feathered heels at funkytrend.com:
The green color layered like fish scales lets you get some air some five inches off the ground, which is pretty much as close as you can get without jumping or wings.

You don't want your hair in your face while you're flying high, do you?

thisnext.com gives you the option to clip it back with a cute feather hairpin. The colors are great for fall, no?

And if feather fashion isn't ringing any bells, maybe this will ring your finger:

Go to doubledeedeals.com to check it out. The colors, the cute metal banding, this ring is worth it's weight in bird shot.

And hey, Halloween is less than a week away, which will give you plenty of options to flaunt your style:

There are actually a lot of bird costumes. Check them out!

Civil Wardrobe

While a lot of crap went down during civil wars, a lot of good happened as well... a defining moment in our history, allowing precedents to be set that rewrite how we view things.

But, this isn't a history lesson. This is a lesson on how history gives us some beautiful clothes or accessories, or gives us inspiration for some fascinating jewelry or outfits. The first is a bangle I found at facetsofhistory.com:

This gold bracelet was made in the times of the civil war, and the pattern is distinctive. Of course, you probably can't get this bracelet specifically, but the pattern and coloring should give you a direction you could go in to flash the flavor.

Next, you should definitely look into getting a kepi:

At armyuniverse.com, you can get this kepi hat for $12.95. It is the signature hat of the American Civil War, but you can top any outfit with this to give it a unique look.

You could also try out this civil war inspired jacket from fanplusfriend.com:

You can get it like this, or in blue, or all black, depending on your idiosyncratic attitude. Put it over jeans or leggings, and get some great boots to go with it, and you've got a great outfit!

Yes, these are great to get your civil style on, but who said there was only one civil war?

joshspear.com has these akawel'le necklaces, which prove that point. Akawel'le translates to "also known as love", and they are made from spent casings from the Liberian civil war that are upcycled into necklaces with the inspirational "LIFE" bead. Made by a 17-year-old refugee, they support a good cause. Actually, if you like the work of Angelina Jolie, she supports this girl's company, I found out.

So, whatever you decide to wear, let your style show your appreciation for whatever you support or love.

Oh, and this? This cartoon doesn't show appreciation of the Civil War.

Anchor's Aweigh!

I do love sailors, they are such winners in my book. One thing I love about them is the cute hats they wear. They slay me! I'm not joshin.

But seriously, want a cute sailor-inspired jacket?

treehugger.com has one that I really like. What i like even more is that it's made of 100% organic material. Green makes the world go round!

If you're worried you don't have your sea legs, you better step up to the plate with these shoes; got the picture from isbeautyskindeep.blogspot.com:

I don't know where they got them, but these shoes? I give you waves and waves of appreciation.

You want a shirt that makes you look cute while gliding on the crystal waters?

This shirt from nitrolicious.com costs only $27.80 and it's really great. I love the stripes, and the big bow gives it a girly girl twist that makes the sea your playground.

Wanna flash some color and still sport the sailor's way?

retrovixens.com gives us a skirt that can cover those bases. This lifesaver keeps you afloat in the fashion industry while still being unique enough to fit your style.

Okay, I'll come clean:

Popeye is my hero.

Darling Dottie

Dots have been in style for a long time. They're simple in their beauty, and can give a youthful look to any outfit. They are fun and flirty and exciting and definitely worth a chance. Are you willing to take that step?

Let's take the leap together, and start off with a dress from thefashionpolice.net:

With its sweetheart cut and matching belt, this outfit could be dressed down for a picnic and a trip to the playground or dressed up with a slick jacket and high heels for a night on the town.

Socks are a major staple for me, and surely there are socks with dots? Yep:

allvolleyball.com offers these high and comfortable socks in many different colors. You don't have to wear them for athletic meets, either. Mix them with a plain pair of sneakers and shorts and you liven up your outfit.

Ooh, a chill in the air. Let's give fall a twist with a ladybug pair of gloves and matching beanie:

purlbee.com. Cute, right? And this model, just saying, looks great with that jacket to match with them.

Jingle, jangle, bangle love! Here are some cut wood bangles, offered by nattiebleu.com:

The angular slices with the curved bracelet are edgy and interesting, especially with the splashes of color. I really like these.

Oh, and if you happen to be one of those people who feel your pet is an accessory, maybe you could try a dress for the little princess:

I wonder if dogs like polka dots... (ioffer.com)

Paint No Rest for the Wicked

Paint spatter is an interesting design because it is so unpredictable in pattern and color, meaning there will always be some spatter that would fit your wardrobe, and that's what it's all about!

Check out these great heels from muord.com:

Slick, with great metallic spray paint colors that will really pop. A really interesting pair of shoes, and they come in other styles too. These are leather, by the way. Moving on!

A shirt with a splatter pattern, but not only that, it has a hummingbird, and that is the definition of boss.

whichtshirt.com gives us this in men's sizes. Isn't the color great?

And for all of you giraffiti lovers, here's a necklace that can take you to the heights you could only dream of:

etsy.com. Yep, a spray paint can as a pendant. Are there no boundaries? No.

And of course, we'll keep things up with a paint splatter belt! Pretty cool, bright, and could go with any pair of jeans, including a variety of colored denim, just to mention.

kaboodle.com is where I found this photo. I love you, kaboodle!

And as always, you can let out your inner warrior and just paint your face:

It's very liberating. BOOMDEYADAH!

Nerd's the Word

Let me step into a world I can get my head around: have you heard that nerd is the new nerd? Most definitely, it is. I'm talking nerd, as in, the people who love one certain nerdy thing to the point that they know everything about that one subject. Yay, ever-reliable nerds! I, myself, am a nerd, and therefore, this blog entry was particularly easy to put together. Let's start at the beginning, shall we?

Or rather, start at the top:

Oh, zazzle.com, thank you for a hat that I appreciate. Any Doctor Who fans out there reading the ol' blog? If you are indeed a Doctor Who fan, you get why there are two hearts. If you don't get why there are two hearts, I suggest you start watching the show or looking it up, because come on, that's embarrassing.

And now on to some jewelry that represents my own personal nerdiness:

forum.gateworld.net, the home of the Stargate Nerd. With so much Stargate floating around... 10 seasons of SG-1, 5 seasons of Atlantis, 1 season of Infinity and now starting the second season of Universe... there are quite a lot of reasons to watch it. It's one of the most popular science fiction shows ever, and therefore, there have got to be a few people who can appreciate this intricate stargate necklace. Enjoy!

You talk the talk, but can you walk the walk of a nerd?On startrekfinds.com, apparently the answer to that is an emphatic yes. These shoes, quite comfortable, it seems, are also sporting the Star Trek logo on the laces. Amazing, truly. These really seem like a pair of shoes that Donald Glover would wear.

With the older series as well as the 4 seasons of the new series, Battlestar Galactica has become a big hit:

technabob.com gives us the cylon ring. Now, my theory is that if they had somehow forced the cylons to wear these, humanity wouldn't have had a problem. Of course, how could we control the robots that took control and nearly destroyed humanity? Sorry, my nerd is showing. (The show is awesome.) Oh, and look! The rings come in women's and men's sizes!

Wow, buddy! Relax, won't you? Why don't you put down the duckhunter gun, and we can talk about this...

Lace Expectations

Girly Wirly Lace. It's been said that if used moderately and in fitting shades for the situation, it can be elegant. But there is so much you can do with lace that you could wear it all the time if you wanted. Who cares what people think? You want to be pretty? Be pretty! You already are, and since that is true, you can find the lace for you.

I found this pretty dress at kaboodle.com, and I like the cut of the hem at the bottom particularly:

Look how swirly it is! Whoever sets it up for photography is better than french fry photographers. I would love to have this now. You tricky, tricky lace photographer...

advicesisters.net came through for me in the lace department with this gorgeous bit of jewelry:

So beautiful; like a fly, delicately trapped in millennium amber, the lace is held in this plastic bangle so, when against any skin tone, it brings forth a startlingly simple but beautiful look that anyone can master. Oh yeah.

Want lace to give you a fairly modest and sexy look all at once? Stockings are the way to go. What are sexier than stockings? And they are darker, so they'll go with almost any dress:

feelingusa.com had these bow lace stockings. I gather they are really inexpensive, and so elegant in a "look-at-me-and-only-me" kind of way. Work it, baby.

To flare your style, you can put your hair up or down with this headband I found at fashionaddict.com.au:

I love how it looks against blond hair, but I'm certain it would be great with any hair color, and that is the sort of thing I love to hear.

Thanks for sticking with me again, reader! And for all the readers who don't like the lacy looks, but want to fit in with the style, you can always go with the tried-and-true method... good ol' American shoelaces.

A Clockwork Outfit

Time is the center of our lives, the center of keeping things in check. And, it's always there. Can't avoid it, as much as we try. But, in the case of fashion, maybe we shouldn't try to avoid it, because it is wonderful!

For example, look at this gorgeous dress I found at Posh Girl Vintage:

I really like the cut and the color, and clocks are like, awesome. We all know this. Who doesn't have a time piece in their house? Crazy people don't. Crazy people who don't appreciate awesome garb. Oh, and guys, heads up? I made this entry a complete outfit... not only do they work apart to show personality, but they could also be great as a set!

The next piece gives clockwork a golden shine:

You know I love kaboodle.com. Here are some clockwork earrings. Great, right? Yes is the answer. I wonder, are they made from real clock gears?

So, chewlry.com had something to offer, too, something we haven't offered in this blog yet, but what I felt would go well with the dress. Black and white is the new white and black:

Like I've mentioned, the cold is slipping into our bones, so we need something to keep us stylish and warm but still matched up. We have a great piece here:Found at buzzworthy.mtv.com, this wonderful scarf is definitely buzzworthy.

There are many different outfits with clocks as the theme, but make sure you don't go overboard, Cogsworth.

I'm with the Band

So many people want to be rock stars, even people who can't play guitar. For all of those people who love music, there are other options, like rocking a style that beats the eardrum.

Here, we have a tie, something I haven't done on this blog as of yet, and if you know me, you know I love ties. I like this one particularly because of the colors.

Sharp.

Several bands have rocked a marching band look, like Coldplay and My Chemical Romance, just to name a few. Think you can handle such a look? The answer is an emphatic yes.

lujoymoda.com lent me this lovely jacket photo, give them a look-see! This jacket is embellished with a monochromatic color sequence, which means if you use it correctly, you could style it with several different outfits... mix it with bright colors to have some fun with it!

You wanna keep dancing to your favorite music, don't you? Of course you do. So you need comfortable shoes. Shoes that I've always found comfortable are the canvas slip-ons, like Vans offer, only these, instead of checkers, are swarming with keys and notes.
I got this at kaboodle.com, like I get a lot of my photos (thanks kaboodle!)

Here's a piece of jewelry that could go with anything, and allow you to march to your own drummer:
thisnext.com shows us a set of drumsticks that you can play on any drum you come across, be it a table top, your chin, etc. Plus, it's so simple of a design that you could play it up or down with your clothes and still look amazing.

And remember, if you don't want to go over the top with the band-wear, try a fan favorite bracelet that is handy in many situations:

Spoonsation

Spoons. What a wonderful utensil is the spoon, right? Though you won't admit it, the spoon is more versatile than a fork. You can even use a spoon to cut with, like it's a tiny spade you use to fight off zombies... off track...

So check this out, a bracelet made out of spoon handles, further proof that spoons can handle a lot. Yea, not that funny, but here we are, from kaboodle.com.

Since so many spoons have intricate handles to begin with, turning these designs into jewelry was sure to happen. This bracelet could go with almost any outfit.

Perhaps you need gold spoons, not silver? Try this set of miny spoons, wrapped in cute little bows, that sit comfortably in pierced ears:

fashionmefabulous.com has these for sale. This goes for a different kind of style, and the color is attractive in this pair.

Another spoon handle? Yes! This one, however, is a hair clip, something unusual but still fantastic. I really like this, and you could wear it with the bracelet if you want. It probably looks good with any hair color, as well, so give it a try!

Borrowed this photo from zakkalife.blogspot.com, so thank you! =]

All this jewelry, but what to wear with it? Well, anything... but I do have a shirt for you, from cafepress.com:

That's what I'm talking about. Spoon!

(myspacebrand.com) Have you seen this video? You better have. If not, go type "my spoon is too big" into youtube.com. And go... spooner, not later! hahahah... yea... not that funny...
